Reports have surfaced that the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins have agreed on a trade that will send Case Keenum to the Nation's Capital. Washington will also receive a 2020 seventh-round selection in addition to Keenum.

Given the Redskins bad cap situation in the wake of the Alex Smith injury, Keenum's free-agent deal signed all of one year ago would presumably need reworked.

When the news first broke that Flacco was coming to Denver, Keenum commented on the situation saying that he was pretty surprised by the news.

Since the end of the season, the Broncos have put in place the framework of a trade to acquire veteran Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens, which Keenum said at the time he was "shocked" and "disappointed" by.

Keenum will likely compete with longtime Redskins backup Colt McCoy to be their Week 1 starter. The Broncos signed Keenum to a two-year contract ahead of last season. Denver will also pay $3.5 million of the $7 million Keenum was guaranteed for 2019. He finished with 3,890 passing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Keenum finished among the bottom 10 in the National Football League in Total QBR. It's not something we wanted to happen. He was even better in 2017 - when he led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship. "And not to mention, right now they can not get a deal that they want". By trading for a quarterback who has started 54 games in his career, the Redskins get a one-year rental at a bargain price, freeing them to take a quarterback in next month's draft who can be developed while Keenum and McCoy start. That would free up almost $9 million.

Mike Klis of Denver 9 was the first to report the salary details.
