Health officials say 41 of the cases are in Clark County, with the remaining case coming from King County.

A measles outbreak has sickened at least 41 kids and young adults in Clark County, Washington, along with a man from the Seattle area and someone in Oregon.

The revelation prompted public health officials in Oregon's Deschutes County and in Hawaii to issue alerts, although no cases were confirmed in either location.

Public Health is not providing any additional information about the one case with one dose of MMR in order to protect the patient's privacy, according to the news release.

Three cases of measles have been confirmed among one Atlanta, Georgia family, health officials reported.

"If you get both doses of the measles vaccine you're looking at about 97 percent protection", Ward said.

The majority of measles cases are children, with 25 of the 35 confirmed cases impacting children under 10 years old.

Opposition to vaccines is generally based on junk science that has been endorsed by celebrities like Jenny McCarthy who, with Oprah's help, falsely hinted that there may be something unsafe about the measles vaccine. Liberal-leaning OR and Washington have some of the nation's highest statewide vaccine exemption rates, driven in part by low vaccination levels in scattered communities and at some private and alternative schools.

Recognize the symptoms. Early signs of measles resemble those of a cold or the flu: a runny nose, cough, fever, red eyes and sore throat tend to appear before the telltale rash begins to spread.

Since then, widespread use of measles vaccine has led to a greater than 99 percent reduction in measles cases compared with the pre-vaccine era. About 94 percent of students in Ada County and 95 percent in Canyon County are assumed to be immunized, based on exemption records for their schools.

Before America offered a measles vaccination program, starting in 1963, the CDC shares that an estimated 3 to 4 million people got measles each year in the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, if you are not sure about your immunization status, and you can not locate your vaccination records, it is safe to get the MMR vaccine.

Nearly everyone who is not immune will get measles if they are exposed to the measles virus.
