Trump Says He Didn’t Know Manafort Gave Polling Data To Russian Associate

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met previous year with a pollster who worked on Donald Trump 's 2016 presidential campaign and is a former associate of Trump's ex-campaign chief Paul Manafort, according to a new report.

A source familiar with the Russian Federation probe told CNN that Fabrizio was questioned about past polling work for elections Manafort worked on in Ukraine.

Trump has long denied any wrongdoing during the campaign and has labeled Mueller's probe a "phony witch hunt". He also has a March 5 sentencing before Jackson in Washington for his guilty plea on conspiracy against the USA and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Manafort's lawyers maintain that all of their client's misstatements to Mueller "were not intentional" and happened because he was poorly prepared for his meetings with the special counsel, which started days before he pleaded guilty and then began in earnest the day after his September 14 plea hearing.

The information was shared around the time that Trump secured the GOP nomination, and most of the data was already public, The Times reported.

Another witness, testifying against Manafort under oath, said Manafort and Akhmetov "knew each other well".

"These circumstances weighed heavily on Mr. Manafort's state of mind and on his memory as he was questioned at length", the attorneys wrote.

Tuesday's filing revealed the first extensive details of what he is accused of having lied about.

News of Manafort's coordination with the Russian, Konstantin Kilimnik, came to light by mistake on Tuesday when his defense team failed to properly redact portions of a court document meant to defend their client from accusations he lied to investigators.

The latest allegations further detail how Manafort's work on the campaign intersected with his past worldwide work with Kilimnik.

"I didn't know anything about that", Trump told reporters outside the White House as he embarked on a trip to the southern border in Texas. Manafort dangled the briefings as he was mired in a dispute with Deripaska over a multimillion-dollar deal involving a Ukrainian cable company.

Paul Manafort arrives for a hearing at US District Court on June 15, 2018 in Washington.

Manafort also did not initially disclose having earlier discussed a Ukraine peace plan with Kilimnik on more than one occasion during the campaign, according to the filing.
