Now, he'll hope to lead West Virginia to the same successful standard.

He'll replace Dana Holgerson, who spent eight seasons in Morgantown before leaving for Houston. The school officially announced the hire Saturday.

"Troy coach Neal Brown is expected to be the next coach at West Virginia, sources with knowledge of the situation told Yahoo Sports", Pete Thamel reported on Friday morning.

"When I started this national search, I learned very quickly that he checked all the boxes of what I was looking for in our next football coach", said Shane Lyons, WVU director of athletics, in the announcement.

"I can't wait to meet our team and get to work".

Brown grew up in Danville, Ky., which is about 150 miles from the West Virginia state line. When Brown took over in 2015, the Trojans were coming off three losing seasons in four years.

One of Brown's major accomplishments at Troy was his success against Power 5 teams. Brown went 4-8 in his debut, then 31-8 over the past three years with one Sun Belt title and wins at Nebraska and LSU. Leaving the great State of West Virginia is hard. They were built more on physicality on both sides of the ball, and Brown's Troy teams ran the ball more often than they passed. West Virginia ranked 114th, running the ball 46.1 percent of the time.
