If we would win the FA Cup people would still say 'but you didn't win the Premier League for 425 years, ' the manager said.

But Klopp, a realist who often bristles when asked about hypotheticals, insisted that he and his players must still be happy with their current status, top after 21 games, following this defeat against the champions.

"We knew it was going to be a very tough season and there will be ups and downs".

Liverpool head in to the game off the back of a hugely disappointing Premier League defeat at Man City so Klopp will be demanding a response from his players against Wolves on Monday night.

This is an impressive Liverpool team, make no mistake, and they are stronger in all departments than the team that went so close to winning the title under Brendan Rodgers in 2014.

City boss Pep Guardiola praised his players afterwards for keeping the title race alive. Van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Dejan Lovren stiffened their backs and reminded their title rivals that Liverpool still hold the advantage.

Klopp won two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund but has yet to win with Liverpool - losing in the finals of both the Europa League and Champions League. "To win these games, he has done it all his career and his finish was incredible".

What with Wolves doing so well in the Premier League, it wouldn't be that hard to believe that the newly promoted side could go on and do well in this year's FA Cup.

At some point last month Liverpool would have hoped to reach this fixture unbeaten in the league and then weigh the importance of the oldest cup competition in the world for this campaign. Raúl Jiménez will look to build upon his six goals scored this season, with three of those coming in the last seven matches.

If Wolves have been hard to predict this term then Liverpool have been the complete opposite, at least in the Premier League.

"You just have to keep going and bounce back and that is something we are definitely going to do". They would lose that game but Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Saido Mane all started the match alongside a lot of other Liverpool regulars at the time. Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are recovering but not fast enough to feature anytime soon, which means that VVD and Dejan Lovren will not get a rest on Monday.

The play is every bit as silly as it sounds.
