Speaking at the Melbourne Cup carnival launch, trainer Darren Weir revealed swelling was detected on Sunday following the gelding's third behind Winx in last Saturday's Cox Plate and scans on Monday confirmed the problem.

THE queen of the turf has a fourth Cox Plate jewel in her crown.

The mighty mare smashed legendary sprinter Black Caviar's Australian win record in August when she made it 26 in a row at a race named in her honour.

It was the Chris Waller-trained seven-year-old's 29th win on the trot and her 22nd win at Group One level, seeing her leave three-time Cox Plate victor Kingston Town in her wake.

"But if she says she doesn't want to race again and Chris says no, then she will go off and be a mum".

Winx had looked relaxed at the barriers before the race, and she was settled quickly in fourth or fifth behind early leaders D'argento and Benbatl.

The Chris Waller-trained mare is now the second-highest earning racehorse in history with career earnings topping $22 million.

"I guess the emotion I'm feeling at the moment is relief - the build-up to her fourth Cox Plate has been so big, the hype has been so big, relief if the word for us and everyone here".

"I get on really well with the horse and it's an opportunity I'm going to savour and I can't wait for tomorrow", he said.

OVER 1000 punters arrived track-side at Ferguson Park this afternoon for the Cox Plate Day races.

"I won't say yes or no because I don't think it's fair really on the horse or the discussions we've had with the owners", he told reporters. "I was looking for Humidor coming off her back and seeing how the others were travelling but she had them covered a long way from home".
