But Mr. Trump said he's also not thrilled with Mexico's response.

Earlier Monday, US President Donald Trump said the United States would begin cutting aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador because they had failed to stop the movement of migrants. As many as 5,000 migrants were reported to have massed in the Mexican city of Tapachula by Sunday evening, some 3,800 kilometers (2,400 miles) from the United States border.

The president went on to say you can "blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic immigration laws". The newspaper reports that several hundred returned to Honduras in buses, and another large group may try to seek asylum in Mexico.

Immigration is expected to play a role in the midterm elections, with Republicans heavily pushing the issue. It remains unclear how numerous caravan's new additions were previously deported from the USA for committing violent crimes.

Mexico's government has reportedly called on the United Nations to help with the 7,000-plus wave of Hondurans, whose numbers have almost tripled as the group broke through border gates to enter Mexico over the weekend.

Over the weekend, President Trump again threatened to seal off the border if Central American countries or Mexico couldn't control the flow north.

US President Donald Trump has said he has alerted the Border Patrol and military that the caravan of people heading to the US/Mexico border is a national emergency. White House officials could not immediately provide details.

Caravan members say they are fleeing gang violence at home and looking for jobs in the US - neither of which has traditionally been enough reason to win asylum on its own.

They are hoping to gain access to the United States of America to live and work, but President Trump is unhappy that so many people are attempting cross the US-Mexico border illegally. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergy (sic).

Others lay exhausted in the open air, with only thin sheets of plastic to protect them from ground soggy from an intense evening shower.

"At this time, it is estimated that the caravan comprises some 7,233 persons, many of whom intend to continue the march north". The caravan is unlike previous mass migrations for its unprecedented large numbers and because it largely began spontaneously through word of mouth. Hurricane Willa has reached a category 5 and is churning its way to Mexico and the Pacific coast.

How much aid is the USA sending to these nations?

Lawmakers' failure to close immigration law loopholes has led to the threat being posed by a massive immigrant caravan headed for the United States border, former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan said Monday.

"He who leaves his town does not leave for pleasure but out of necessity", he said.
