In what was a huge game - as well as Van Dijk's third in eight days - Liverpool fans will likely forgive him for the error - although that is obviously far easier given that Mahrez missed.

The top of the Premier League could not be much tighter, with only two points separating the top five teams, but I still cannot see beyond a two-horse title race between Manchester City and Liverpool.

Will Guardiola run away with the league again with Man City? However, both the teams failed to create any big chances and the keepers spent the first half mostly as spectators.

The 32-year-old has been in exceptional form for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, having carried across his inspirational form that saw him help Liverpool to the Champions League final last term into the new campaign.

"I'm the captain [of Netherlands] and we have a very important game against Germany, so we have to try to be ready for that one and then try to get a bit of rest after that one".

And with that, he's missed four of his last six penalty kicks.

Arsenal moved into fourth, just two points back, with a highly impressive 5-1 thrashing of Fulham earlier on Sunday to record their ninth straight win in all competitions. Pep Guardiola's team will play Burnley after the global break and will then make a trip to Ukraine to play Shakhtar Donetsk for their next Champions League match.

"But we played City today".

Twitter reacted to the draw and here are some of the best tweets. "It looks like they are in a good shape", said Klopp.

But Jurgen Klopp's men were unable to maintain that supremacy after mustering just two shots on target during the 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw .

"[After] 85 minutes, you obviously get a bit worn out, and that moment goes by in a split second and I chose to dive in, which is not what I would normally do. I am happy with the results we got".

"And with City eyeing further progress in the Champions League - where they will face other fast, reactive teams - Mahrez feels the knowledge that they can be canny at the back and still trouble teams going forward, is a big stride forward".

"We have to start thinking about the players".

However, there's no doubt that that the performance levels have been lower than what we've come to expect from this Liverpool side.
