Jadeja though hit the stumps with the batsman well short of the crease but his teasing act tested the nerves of the Indian fielders including Kohli.

Indian bowlers rattled the Windies first-innings reply after Ravindra Jadeja smashed his maiden worldwide century as the hosts got a firm grip over the first Test on Friday.

Rajkot: Skipper Virat Kohli brought up his 24th Test century while wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant missed out on one after a blistering 92 as India put on 506/5 at lunch on day two of the first Test against the West Indies here on Friday.

India's Ravichandran Ashwin (centre) celebrates with teammates after dismissing West Indies' Shai Hope.

Leg-spinner Bishoo removed Ashwin and Kuldeep to finish with four wickets, but had conceded 217 off his 54 overs.

The top order did not withstand the Indian bowling attack, as Shami accounted for both openers and then a horrendous mix-up saw Shimron Hetmyer run-out just when he looked to be settling.

The Windies are now struggling at 94-6, with Keemo Paul (13 runs) and Roston Chase (27) at the crease.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that he is extremely happy to see India play like they are against West Indies in the Test series.

West Indies suffered at the hands of teenager Prithvi Shaw who struck the third-fastest hundred on debut as India dominated the opening day of the first Test here on Thursday.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant brought the morning alive with his attacking cricket as he hit eight fours and four sixes during his 84-ball blitz. Slamming five fours and five sixes in his knock, Jadeja reached his maiden Test ton with a quick single to mid-on and followed it up with his famous sword celebration. Smith, who is serving a one-year ball tampering ban, has 23 tons in 64 Tests.
