Ramirez has told The New Yorker that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her while they were both students in the 1980s.

Your public statements clearly reveal how unimportant it is to you to review any facts related to this nomination.

Dr Ford, a California university professor, detailed for the Senate Judiciary Committee her claims that Mr Kavanaugh tried to rape her at a party in 1982 when the two were high school teenagers.

"I had planned to just talk to him nicely, but once when I saw that he was voting for Kavanaugh my niceties went out the window", she said.

Following Ford's testimony, Kavanaugh vigorously denied the allegations before the committee and accused Democrats of launching a last-minute attempt to derail his nomination.

Trump told associates after the hearing that he liked Kavanaugh's fighting attitude and was critical of Democrats who he sees as politicising the process, said a person familiar with his thinking who was not authorised to disclose private conversations.

The announcement came after members of the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to approve Kavanaugh's nomination to the top U.S. court. Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are similarly affected. The hearing, played on televisions, rang through the West Wing of the White House as Trump flew back from NY - with the televisions on Air Force One tuned to the proceedings.

On Saturday, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, issued a blistering response to Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), who had apparently expressed an interest in the current supplemental FBI background investigation revolving around Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

A committee spokesman on Saturday declined to elaborate beyond the statement.

The panel split along strict party lines with the 11 Republican members backing Kavanaugh and all 10 Democrats voting against the president's controversial nominee - whose lifelong appointment would tilt the top court decisively to the right.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona., speaks before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about an investigation, September 28, 2018 on Capitol Hill in Washington. While the scope of the investigation remains unclear, Trump says the FBI "has free rein" and that he wants agents to interview whomever they deem appropriate. They have been all over already.

Lawyers for P.J. Smyth and Leland Ingham Keyser, two others who Ford said were in the house when she was attacked, have said their clients are willing to cooperate "fully" with the FBI's investigation.

Walsh continued, per CNN: "However, the simple and unchangeable truth is that she is unable to corroborate it because she has no recollection of the incident in question".

Democrats have been particularly focused on getting more information from Mark Judge, a high school friend of Kavanaugh who Ford said was also in the room during her alleged assault.

The elevator encounter came amid the fast-moving, highly charged debate over Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court and allegations of sexual assault brought against him by multiple women.

Bush has been picking up the phone to call Senators, lobbying them to support Mr Kavanaugh, who worked in the White House for Mr Bush and through him met his wife Ashley, who was Mr Bush's personal secretary. "His face was white and very uncomfortable saying "hello" back", she said.

"In an airplane", Ford replied - an answer that contradicted her lawyers' contention that she could not testify earlier because of her fear of flying.

The FBI investigation into Ford's and Ramirez's claims came after a dramatic showdown in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday, in which Sen.
