The Red Cross Relief Doughnut is a strawberry shortcake donut, made with local strawberries from Hurricane Creek Farms, topped with vanilla icing.

The Red Cross was in the WIS studio on Monday, September 17 to host a disaster relief phone bank.

The Wichita Falls American Red Cross sent several volunteers from North Texas to the Carolinas earlier this week, but not every volunteer can be sent to the East Coast at once.

The funds will support disaster response, including support for Red Cross shelters, volunteer training and mobilization of volunteers. She is in Durham, North Carolina.

"(We) partnered with the National Guard to transport both supplies and volunteers into areas more cut off from flooding", she said.

"We know everybody's hearts are in the right place", said Spartanburg County South Carolina Emergency Management Director Doug Bryson. "If they don't need us for feeding, then they put us into bulk and we distribute products to people that they can use for cleanup and recovery".

Monetary donations are recommended in favor of items, because goods require storage and transportation, and they often go to waste. "We learn from every disaster".

PLEASE GIVE BLOOD More than 170 blood drives have been forced to cancel through this week due to Hurricane Florence, resulting in more than 4,600 uncollected blood and platelet donations. Donors can designate their donation to Hurricane Florence relief efforts by choosing that option when donating on redcross.org or on 1-800-RED CROSS. Others are called on to help at the scene of local house and apartment fires to assist people who have been affected.

Blood donations are also critical during this time.

According to the Red Cross, almost 200 blood drives were forced to be canceled because of Florence.
