Mitch McConnell Predicts 'Kavanaugh Will Be on the United States Supreme Court'

Trump's change of strategy comes as Ford's reps have begun to negotiate terms of her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford's lawyers and Democrats on the panel want the FBI to investigate the charges. Kavanaugh has denied Ford's allegations.

The president has indicated he wants Ford to testify, saying, "I really want to see her, to see what she has to say".

He said if Ford's case is credible, then the Senate Judiciary Committee will have to decide if they are going to advance Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Senate floor.

Republicans, having already pushed the process back from this week to next week, signaled they would be open to another short delay by postponing Monday's hearing in favor of Wednesday.

Evangelical activists are pressing Republican leaders to act more forcefully to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Almost 3 in 10 say they don't know if Kavanaugh should be confirmed.

The event is the latest effort by allies of President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee to counter the allegation of sexual assault that may have the potential to derail his confirmation to the high court.

"Facts don't matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C." he complained.

Ford issued new demands Thursday, asking that Kavanaugh testify first and no outside counsels question her.

A senior Senate Democratic aide noted that reopening Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks was fairly routine; 10 such probes into judicial nominees had been reopened in the last three months alone, the aide said.

-She wants to the panel to subpoena Mark Judge, the other person Ford says was in the room when Kavanaugh allegedly attacked her. Judge has said he never saw Kavanaugh behave as Ford has described. But she says California college professor Christine Blasey Ford's accusation Kavanaugh tried to rape her when they were teenagers should not be lumped in with the movement that has toppled men from the pinnacles of their careers. Charles Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sen.

Trump has confirmed 26 circuit court judges during his presidency, which McConnell has shepherded through with the help of a simple majority without the chance for any filibusters.

According to Ford's account, she attended a house party with Kavanaugh and other teens at a Maryland home in 1982. A much larger number of female Democratic senators are serving to highlight the optics of elderly, white Republican men interrogating a woman in defense of a judicial nominee whose commitment to Roe v. Wade is suspect.

Can the Senate Judiciary Committee enlist the FBI to investigate the claims of sexual assault brought by an accuser against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, nominee to the Supreme Court?

"Hopefully he can keep it together until Monday", the White House official told Axios - ostensibly referring to the date Republicans want Ford to testify about her accusations "That's only, like, another 48 hours right?"

"I'm sure she's preparing mentally to embrace her truth and kind of get past the things that have made her feel like she has to hide it and be silent", her sister-in-law Deborah Ford Peters told ABC's "Good Morning America".
