49ers miss on Josh Gordon after Patriots trade with Browns

The Cleveland Browns have traded wide receiver Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots, the team announced Monday.

After the Browns announced they would be releasing the receiver on Monday, as many as 8-10 teams called them, interested in trading for the receiver, according to reports.

The Browns have been supportive of Gordon, but the team felt betrayed and decided it was time to cut ties. "We wish Josh well", Browns general manager John Dorsey said in a statement.

Rapoport reported Sunday morning Gordon had injured his hamstring during a promotional photoshoot, which contributed to Browns' decision to release him.

Belichick typically holds a conference call with reporters Tuesday, so maybe then he will be willing to speak of the deal and his newest wide receiver. Take out Higgins and Drango, who have played in all but three total games since being drafted, the remaining four have combined for 5 games and 0 starts. Originally signed by Oakland as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Streater has appeared in 52 games with the Raiders (36) and 49ers (16).

The receiver has admitted in personal pieces published by various outlets that he's struggled with substance abuse since he was in middle school, and that he never played a game sober prior to his 2017 return. Coleman has played in 19 National Football League games with 18 starts and has 56 receptions for 718 yards and five touchdowns. A Pro Bowl player in 2013, Gordon set a franchise record with an NFL-best 1,646 yards on 87 receptions with nine of those catches going for touchdowns after missing the first two games of the season because of a suspension. He's since found the end zone just twice in the ensuing five seasons.
