Tropical Storm Isaac Continues To Lose Steam As To Pushes Towards Caribbean

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to be at hurricane strength when it reaches the Lesser Antilles on Thursday

According to the National Hurricane Center's 11 p.m. Tuesday update, Isaac has weakened somewhat in the previous 24 hours and is now expected to enter the Caribbean Thursday evening as a tropical storm, rather than a hurricane. Isaac was moving to the west at 21 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.

This weekend Isaac is forecast to move toward the central and western Caribbean as a tropical storm.

Florence, however, continues to threaten the east coast as a fierce storm that could trigger flooding as far south as Georgia.

However, it is expected to generate accumulations of rain of between five and seven centimeters in isolated areas of the Lesser Antilles, with a danger of flooding.

Tropical Storm Helene has sparked weather warnings across the Azores, the Portuguese islands located 1,000 miles off the west coast of continental Europe. One system, moving toward Texas in the Gulf Coast, was forecast at a 70 percent chance of cyclone formation over the next 48 hours.

With the expected track bringing a weakening Florence along the eastern and eventually northern outskirts of the CSRA, that means the rain/wind will be the most extreme in those areas.

The Met Office assured that Tropical Storm Isaac poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago as it continues to move away from the Lesser Antilles.

For the first time since 2008, there are four named storms in the Atlantic.

The centre of Isaac passed between Martinique and Dominica with maximum sustained winds of about 45 miles per hour.

The hurricane is now moving north at around 20km/h, and was expected to slow down today, becoming a tropical storm.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 949 mb (28.03 inches). Then, Friday through Saturday Florence is expected to slow its forward progress and turn toward the west southwest, slowly advancing across central SC and weakening with time.
