Trump urged Americans to "be careful!" during the storm, which he claimed had strengthened.

According to the National Weather Service, the waves are produced by being trapped along with very strong winds moving in the same direction as the storm's motion. Tropical-storm force winds extend outward to 105 miles from the center. "Be careful!" he tweeted.

"The rain's going to be around for a long time", he said.

National Hurricane Center Director Ken Graham warns that a slight shift in Florence's forecast track does not mean that some communities north of the storm are now in the clear. In coastal North Carolina, this could be 20 to 30 inches, isolated up to 40 inches in some areas, which could lead to catastrophic flooding. Although the storm is expected to weaken, it has followed a wavering path and could still pose a threat to Cayman early next week. As many as 1.5 million people are believed to live within mandatory evacuation zones.

A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hurricane Hunter aircraft is now en route to investigate the depression, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

"Please do not be alarmed if you receive an alert on your phone", he said.

The cone of possible tropical storm force wind now reaches 13 states, with all of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia having a chance of receiving winds of 39 miles per hour or above.

Well, mostly those living in the south coast of the country.

The storm has a raincloud band that's 900 kilometers wide - and it's coming alongside monsoon rains, creating risks for flash floods and landslides.

NOAA's National Hurricane Center issued a Public Advisory at 5 a.m.

The primary concern in the short term is Hurricane Florence.

Less rain is predicted for St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. It is still a Category 4 storm with winds of 130 miles per hour. In South Carolina, local officials reported 300,000 had already evacuated the coast as of Wednesday.

Helene is now 2,065km south-southwest of the Azores in the Atlantic and Met Éireann said the storm would approach the south coast by Tuesday.

The implications of a major landfalling hurricane are devastating.

Near Hawaii, Post-Tropical Cyclone Olivia is blowing with winds of over 50 km/h, but it's moving away from the islands. On this forecast track, Helene will pass near or over the Azores late Saturday or Sunday.
