DS TV SENSATION The Novichok attack suspects have been interviewed by Russia Today

The two men named by Britain as suspects in the attempted murder of a former Russian spy said on Thursday they were merely sightseeing in the small English town and have been wrongly accused.

The two accused men spoke on camera for almost 30 minutes, rarely smiling as they discussed their actions with RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan.

Petrov said they wanted to visit Wiltshire's pre-historic monument Stonehenge rather than carry out a state-sponsored execution on foreign soil.

"It's famous for its 123-meter spire", he said, adding that its clock is also notable.

British prosecutors last week identified two Russians, whom they said were operating under aliases - Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov - and whom they accused of being the so-called "novichock two".

Just a day after President Vladimir Putin urged them to come forward, the two Russians the United Kingdom accuses of carrying out a nerve-agent attack on a former spy denied the charges in an interview with RT state television. "We got wet, took the nearest train and came back" to London, they told RT, Russia's state-run global broadcaster.

The men's surprise public appearance came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian authorities know the identities of the two men, but insisted that they are civilians and there is "nothing criminal" about them.

British officials dismissed their claims and said they stood by allegations that the poison attack was approved at the highest levels of the Russian government.

Two men said they travelled to Europe, including several times to Switzerland, looking for new products such as amino acids, vitamins and microelements. Simonyan tweeted in Russian earlier that Petrov and Boshirov had "refused to give interviews to anyone else, not even our journalists, as they said, they know me on the air and read my social networks and therefore, again they said they trust me".

Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov denied working for the Russian military intelligence service. We arrived in Salisbury on March 3 and tried to walk through the town but we lasted for only half an hour because it was covered in snow.

"We're afraid of going out, we fear for ourselves, our lives and lives of our loved ones", Boshirov said.

A spokesman for Theresa May condemned the lies and "blatant fabrications" in the interview, adding... They denied the allegation and Russian Federation refused to extradite them. The men denied having any poison or the counterfeit Nina Ricci perfume bottle that United Kingdom police say was used to transport the weapons-grade nerve agent.

Despite being filmed "moments before" the botched hit before leaving the country hours later in a flight out of Heathrow, the brazen Russians claimed they spent "no more than an hour" in Salisbury. "We'd made plans for staying in London for a while and for visiting Salisbury", said Petrov.

"CCTV shows them in the vicinity of Mr Skripal's house and we believe that they contaminated the front door with Novichok".

However, a European Arrest Warrant has been obtained in case they travel to the EU, and UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid has warned that the men will be caught and prosecuted if they ever step out of Russian Federation.

The two men, who appeared to be around 40, said they worked in the nutrient supplements business.
