Cuomo's vulnerabilities heading into the primary

New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo, will face off in a primary against challenger Cynthia Nixon today, in the latest test of the wave of progressive challengers who have taken on establishment Democrats across the US.

Cuomo and Nixon agree that NY should adopt single-payer healthcare, but they differ on how to get there.

He wrote Monday on Twitter that he didn't know "who this brilliant lady is", but added that she had his vote, as he posted a video in which Nixon said it was time for ny to legalize marijuana. "I feel very excited; I'm about to go vote", she said.

And in July, Mr. Cuomo was dragged into ugly headlines after the architect of his six-year-old plan to revitalize upstate NY - dubbed "Buffalo Billion" - was convicted in a bid-rigging scheme involving state contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

In addition, the New York Post published an email from a Cuomo campaign aide, who they chose to keep nameless, in which the aide pitches an article slamming Nixon for supporting the "insidious" BDS campaign.

"New Yorkers & all NYCHA residents its time to get JUSTICE", Minaj tweeted.

However, as outrage built over Cuomo's watery denial - his campaign pinned responsibility for the mailer on an anonymous "constituency outreach" volunteer - it emerged on Wednesday that the mailer was drafted by Cuomo's former special assistant David Lobl, now volunteering with his re-election campaign, and approved by Larry Schwartz, the governor's former secretary. Cuomo believes this will strengthen our democracy. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Maloney is the more moderate of the bunch, and a win could jeopardize Democratic control of his House seat in upstate NY, in a district where President Donald Trump carried by a slim 2-point margin in 2016. By now, his failure to do so creates a liability among voters on the left. Please encourage your friends out here in the Empire State to vote this Thursday, 9/13! Many condemned the mailer as "beyond the pale", including the rabbi of the temple Nixon attends in NY. She could have brought up his failure to address gerrymandering, an issue that Cuomo ran on in 2010. "Which I think people think is weird too". Ethics reforms and "the fact that all of these sexual harassment are being handled by panels by men in Albany" also show Cuomo's weaknesses, Dawidziak said.

Cuomo's advocacy for same-sex marriage, gun control and other progressive causes might bolster him against Nixon.

Cuomo has said that he had no knowledge of the mailer and said through a spokeswoman that the language was "inappropriate". "It might be closer than he prefers, or the polls could be right for a change, but usually when they have spreads this big, things collapse down", Cunningham said.
