Donald Trump's presidency has been rocked by a series of damning revelations including a scathing opinion piece by an unnamed senior administration official who described a"quiet resistance effort to counter Trump's worst impulses

As he did with "Deep Throat" on Watergate, Woodward based his reporting in Fear on "deep background" interviews, sharing all available information without revealing the identity of his sources.

"And what you want to do is say, do you have any documents or notes. and they say no, no, no".

"These are political statements to protect their jobs? totally understandable", Woodward said on NBC's "Today" speaking about the denials. "Much better than before I took office".

In his first of a series of tweets, Mr. Trump called Woodward's book, which publishes Tuesday, "a joke" and said that he would write his own White House account.

"The people are not anonymous to me", he says of his sources.

Charles reported that Barnes and Noble said "Fear" was its fastest-selling book since Harper Lee's 2015 novel "Go Set a Watchman", the long-awaited follow-up to "To Kill a Mockingbird".

The highly anticipated book, which chronicles some unflattering moments in the Trump administration, has been sourced from numerous current and former officials.

But on Sunday, the president offered fresh praise for Kim following a North Korean military parade that, unlike past parades, downplayed the missiles and nuclear weapons that brought North Korea to the brink of military conflict with the United States just a year ago.

The author writes that Porter and White House economic adviser Gary Cohn helped stave off some of Trump's attempts to end free-trade agreements, even to the point of stealing paper off the Resolute Desk so the president didn't see them. This has not been treated seriously enough. There had been rumors for some time that certain people wanted the US president to follow in Richard Nixon's footsteps and step down, and Vice President Mike Pence to take over.

Christie, who is a subject within the book, continued to unleash his wrath on Woodward and Bannon: "If Mr".

Trump then told Cohn that he wouldn't pick him to be Fed chair, according to the book. "He and I both know this story is total BS".

The book's damning picture was reinforced last week with the publication of a New York Times op-ed written by an anonymous senior Trump administration official who portrayed fellow aides struggling to limit the potentially disastrous consequences of some of the president's rash decisions.

Pressed on whether Trump can win a credibility battle with the Pulitzer victor who helped expose President Richard Nixon's Watergate-era transgressions, Sanders pointed to "actual, on record" accounts from White House staffers, again pointing to Mattis and Kelly, "not disgruntled former employees".
