'Monster' Hurricane Florence Barrels Toward the Carolinas

Storm Florence: State Of Emergency Declared As US Braces For ‘Monster Hurricane’

The NHC said: "The centre of Florence will move over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas today, and approach the coast of North Carolina or SC in the hurricane warning area on Thursday and Friday". Unfortunately, the forecast is for the storm to stall out and drop a ton of rain in the Carolinas.

Although Florence was still days from arrival, authorities took extraordinary measures to move people out of harm's way.

While many coastal residents heeded mandatory evacuation orders, others boarded up homes and businesses and chose to courageous the storm, which is forecast to trigger severe flash flooding as it dumps as many as three feet (almost a meter) of rain in some areas. So we could have two landfalls - one around Wilmington and then one near Myrtle Beach or even south of there. "Don't bet your life on riding out a monster", he said. All of those, however, made landfall south of where Florence is predicted to hit, and Florence's wind speeds are predicted to be higher than those four storms.

Wilmington, North Carolina, just north of where the hurricane is expected to come ashore, was sunny around midday on Wednesday as the town appeared to be emptying.

And during last year's Hurricane Irma, officials said 12 people died in Florida's Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills after temperatures in the nursing home rose to 99 degrees.

A tropical storm watch was issued for north of the North Carolina-Virginia border to Cape Charles Light, Virginia, and the Chesapeake Bay south of New Point Comfort.

NHC forecasts showed the effects of Florence would be widely felt, with tropical storm-force winds extending almost 300 miles across three states.

So far, more than one million people along the coasts of North and SC and southern Virginia have fled.

It is predicted to stall even more off the coast of the Carolinas before scraping down the United States east coast and moving inland before the weekend.

Speaking in the Oval Office alongside Trump, FEMA administrator Brock Long said Florence may be a "very devastating storm".

OH will also feel the effects of Florence.

Between 1 millions and 3 million people will likely lose power when Hurricane Florence makes landfall later this week, according to a Wednesday report from Duke Energy.

Stronger, rainier, and more damaging hurricanes have always been predicted as a effect of climate change.

The American Red Cross said more than 700 workers were headed to the region while shelters were set up to house those unable to flee.

Hurricane warnings have been issued by the U.S. National Hurricane Center for portions of SC and North Carolina due to Hurricane Florence, according to the agency's 5 p.m. update on September 11, 2018.

"We are sparing no expense".

"And that's saying a lot given the impacts we've seen from Hurricanes Diana, Hugo, Fran, Bonnie, Floyd, and Matthew", the organization said in a statement that was circulated on Twitter. Upon its arrival, the National Hurricane Center projects that Florence could drop anywhere from 20-40 inches of rain along the Carolina coast. Residents have been urged to be prepared. Many gasoline stations were running low on fuel.

Some areas are expected to see between 20 and 30 inches of rain through early next week in the area shaded in purple in the second image above.

"Where alse can we go?"
