Apple launch 2018: everything we're expecting to be announced

As the Cupertino-based company gears up for its biggest event of the year, iPhone fans may be in for some disappointing news - the upcoming iPhones are unlikely to come with any groundbreaking feature and there will be some big compromises.

Some rumours say that the affordable iPhone will either be the successor to the iPhone SE or the iPhone 8 and will be called iPhone SE 2 or iPhones 9. Called AirPower, the pad would be able to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and its AirPods headphones at the same time, just by placing them on the mat. That means no 5G iPhone this year, or possibly in 2019, and I bet that no one is going to complain. The 6.1-inch iPhone would also have the edge-to-edge screen and Face ID, the face-detecting security feature that replaces a fingerprint sensor.

The iPhone XC, on the other hand, is tipped to use an LCD screen instead of the OLED panel. The hardware maker is expected to introduce a ton of new hardware on Wednesday, ranging from new iPhones to Apple Watch smartwatches. This is probably the least likely of the quintet to appear on the stage at 2018's iPhone launch, but recent renders have corroborated a few rumors we've been hearing of late. Apple already used one of these 5 years ago to identify an "inexpensive" iPhone model. This year, the new models will likely be available for purchase much closer to their announcement date. The device could look the same as its predecessor, but include internal improvements such as a faster processor and updated camera, as is standard with off-year "S" updates.

According to a report by PhoneRadar, a Chinese telecom operator has shared an ad which hints that the company will bring a dual SIM iPhone this year. Usually, Apple comes up with only one availability date for worldwide. The company plans to introduce new Apple Watches with larger screens that go almost edge-to-edge, showing the user more information.
