Tropical Storm Florence is expected to restrengthen into a major hurricane before threatening US

The probably path of Hurricane Florence as of September 9, 2018, estimating the landfall of the storm in the Carolinas at Thursday evening or Friday morning.

The National Hurricane Center said Sunday Tropical Storm Isaac was centred about 1,540 miles (2,475 kilometres) east of the Windward Islands.

And computer models increasingly are showing it could be dangerously close to the United States late Thursday.

"Many areas in Missouri, Illinois and in will continue to see a risk of flooding during the day Saturday", said AccuWeather meteorologist Ryan Adamson.

The governors of both North and SC have declared states of emergency.

McMaster said he has asked U.S. President Donald Trump to declare a federal emergency in the state in anticipation of the storm's arrival.

Tropical Storm Florence is forecast to become "a risky major hurricane" by late next week as the weather system tracks through the Atlantic Ocean toward the East Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center. "While we don't yet know what the path of this storm will be, it is never too early to prepare yourself, your family, and your home".

Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency Friday, just a day after Tropical Storm Florence was downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane.

Cooper also urged people to learn what evacuation routes to take, and put fuel in their vehicles in case they're ordered to leave. "Action today can avoid losses due to Florence".

Satellite images have shown gradual organization during the past 24 hours and the system should continue to develop through the next several days.

We will continue to update the forecast for Florence, but now is a good time to remember that we are entering the peak of hurricane season.

Florence became the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season this past Wednesday, reaching Category 4 status with maximum sustained winds peaking at 130 miles per hour.

NHC added that the risk of direct impact from the storm along the U.S. East Coast over the next week has increased, but it is too soon to determine location, magnitude and timing of the impact.

These swells, already affecting Bermuda, "are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions", the NHC said.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but officials say it is expected to become a hurricane by Monday. The NHC has also issued an advisory for the Eastern Pacific on Tropical Storm Paul, and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued advisories for Hurricane Olivia, which is moving quickly westward toward Hawaii.

The 11 a.m. Sunday projected path forecast for Hurricane Florence.
