Dozens of passengers on Emirates plane suddenly fall ill mid-flight

It has since been reported that 10 crew members and passengers were transported to a Jamaica Hospital in Queens, while nine others who showed symptoms had refused treatment.

But Mr Phillips said that some of the passengers had originally come from the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca, which was now experiencing a flu outbreak, and that this was also being considered as a possible cause.

Ten people on board a 14-hour Emirates flight from Dubai were taken to hospital in NY on Wednesday after U.S. health authorities mobilized to meet the jet ferrying sick passengers.

In an another apparently unrelated health scare, passengers on four Southwest Airlines flights in Texas may have been exposed to measles in the last 16 days.

The plane reportedly was quarantined.

Rapper Vanilla Ice said on Twitter that his flight from Dubai was delayed on the runway at JFK.

In a second statement, Emirates has confirmed all passengers have disembarked from the flight.

Larry Cohen, who identified himself as one of the passengers on the plane, uploaded photos on Twitter showing dozens of police and emergency vehicles waiting outside the aeroplane on the tarmac.

Emirates said in a statement Wednesday that three passengers and seven crew members were taken to a hospital for medical care and evaluation.

Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Port Authority police were reportedly responding to the incident. The plane had stopped in Mecca, where there's a flu outbreak, Fox News reported. She said the crews had not contacted medical personnel ahead of landing to alert them of sick passengers on board. Later, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey said the aircraft was not quarantined but was inspected.
