Another high-level Tesla official has left the electric automaker, amid struggles to meet production goals and negative publicity surrounding founder Elon Musk.

On Friday, Tesla's chief accounting officer unexpectedly resigned after a month on the job - leaving a hole in the embattled company's management. "I'm not a regular smoker of weed", Musk said. He added that he still believed in Tesla, that "I have no disagreements with Tesla's leadership or its financial reporting". In addition, Tesla's head of human resources told Bloomberg on Friday she also decided not to come back to the automaker after her leave of absence.

Elon Musk, the billionaire chief executive of Tesla, risked provoking fresh concern from investors on Friday after smoking marijuana on a live web show with U.S. comedian Joe Rogan.

During the podcast interview, Rogan asks Musk about his 1961 Jaguar E-Type, the Boring company and.shares a smoke with Musk.

Musk has security clearance because another of his companies, SpaceX, provides satellite launch services to the USA government.

In a subsequent email in response to a question about whether Tesla drug tests employees, Musk wrote: "Our policy allows trace amounts of THC during work times, provided they are below the safety limit (much like a minimum alcohol level)".

Morton's departure further roiled the company, which has been under heightened scrutiny since Musk's chaotic Twitter announcement on August 7 that he was considering taking Tesla private, before reversing the plan two weeks later. Soon after, Tesla shares dropped by six percent in early trading.

"The electric airplane isn't necessary right now", Musk told Rogan.

The interview was taped in California, where marijuana is legal.

In a premarket SEC filing, the company said its chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, was quitting, effective immediately.

The latest round of executive departures comes after Elon Musk opted to walk away from his initiative to take the company private last month. What I'm saying is that when Musk is bad the tweets are good, and here are the best ones from today's well-deserved social media dogpile. Since the start of the year, 41 executives have left, according to CNBC.

Not only did Musk not have any kind of written funding deal, many Tesla investors saw little upside in approving a deal that would reduce Tesla's transparency and the liquidity of Tesla stock.

It wasn't the first time Musk's tweeting put him into some potential legal trouble: Vernon Unsworth, the British diver who assisted in the Thai cave rescue this summer, filed a lawsuit against the executive for calling him a "pedo" online.
