Trump urges Justice Department probe of 'resistance' writer

A High-Level "Resistance" Mole Inside the Trump Administration Just Published an Anonymous New York Times Op-Ed

When asked whether action should be taken against the New York Times for publishing the anonymous op-ed - which was written by a "senior official" who revealed a group of administration officials are working to "thwart" President Trump's most "misguided impulses" - Trump said he was "looking at that right now".

Trump tweeted, "Does the so-called "Senior Administration Official" really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source?"

"The Vice President puts his name on his Op-Eds".

Haley argues in her opinion piece that concerns with the president's actions should be brought to his attention publicly, arguing that she has done so on several occasions since joining the Trump administration past year.

Pelosi mused about "who wrote it, who has denied it already".

In addition to the single source, Schrader said this must put "news staff at the New York Times in an incredibly hard position" because they will most likely want to investigate and report who this source is.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also issued denials.

Advised the tests would result in mass resignations, he ordered the tests for about 1,000 employees of the State and Defense departments, the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council.

"That would actually be a good scoop", Trump said at a rally in Montana Thursday night.

The anonymous author said that similar-minded officials within the administration are "trying to do what's right even when Donald Trump won't", like making sure a reticent president implemented mandatory sanctions on Russian Federation for an assassination attempt with the Novichok nerve agent on British soil that killed one woman.

"It's a disgrace that somebody can do that", Trump said.

Regarding the writer's identity, he said it "may not be a Republican, it may not be a conservative, it may be a deep state person who has been there for a long time".

Op-ed page editor Jim Dao told The Times' "Daily" podcast that the author went through an intermediary several days ago to publish the piece.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the author was "not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people". "So, well done, New York Times".

Sen. Chris Coons of DE said, "President Trump continues to show a troubling trend in which he views the Department of Justice as the private legal department of the Trump organization rather than an entity that is focused on respecting the Constitution and enforcing our laws". "So, yes, I think we need to get to the bottom of it".

The Justice Department declined to confirm or deny an investigation.
