Although what had been an unqualified United success at Burnley was slightly tarnished when Marcus Rashford, who had been cynically fouled by Phil Bardsley, received a red card after he headbutted his assailant, Mourinho believes the England forward will learn to curb his impetuousness.

United could ill afford the pressure to ratchet up any higher heading into the global break after chastening back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham.

Manchester United will face Watford, who have been in stunning form this season, in their next Premier League fixture.

Mourinho was in a cheerful mood after the game, but the same can't really be said for Alexis Sanchez in the second half.

"We have the mentality, but it needs to come out a bit more", Lukaku told the club's website.

'I think at times he got frustrated with me because he knew I could do better, and I look back at times and maybe he was right, ' said Shaw on his relationship with Mourinho.

Speaking at The FIFA Best Awards, Schmeichel, who spent eight trophy-laden years at United during the 1990s, said: "You've got the Jose Mourinho way - a proven victor - he has his own way of reacting and dealing with whatever".

"We have the quality, that's for sure", said Fellaini.

"But two things helped me to feel better about myself - the result and the atmosphere from our fans in the stands".

"The club is special for a lot of reasons, and undoubtedly one of them is all of you out there".

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic praised manager Jose Mourinho for diverting pressure from his under-fire players.

"I don't know what happened", he added.

"We knew that this was a must-win game and the fans played with us".

"Everything [pleased me]. The first 10 minutes were the mirror of the game".

"Romelu (Lukaku) should leave here with a hat-trick easily, but the important thing is that he went back to goals and the team are back to victories".
