It was a celebration befitting a queen.

With about three dozen speakers and entertainers slotted in, the program at Greater Grace Temple had been estimated to go five hours, but instead went about eight, ending a few minutes before 7 p.m. The author depended on his trove of interviews with other stars he had interviewed and had interviews with her sisters and cousins and her former managers. "It just didn't seem to be something she got around to", Don Wilson, Franklin's longtime lawyer, told the Associated Press. Her wealth included royalties from hit songs, as well as property. She was remembered as the pride of Detroit and as a citizen of the world. Over decades, she increased her musical reach to wider forms of expression but stayed true to her beginnings.

"She lived with power - not without weakness, but overcoming her weaknesses". Not without weakness, but overcoming her weaknesses.

"I personally and sincerely apologize to Ariana and to her fans and to the whole Hispanic community", Ellis said.

"I'd like to clarify that Aretha and I discussed both of us having cancer, mine was stage 1 breast cancer and hers was pancreatic", she said in a statement.

She definitely did just that.

"Ariana Grande sang one of the Queen of Soul's biggest hits, "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", and Faith Hill performed "What a Friend We Have In Jesus".

"I know you're celebrating with your family and our neighborhood friends who are all gone".

Gladys Knight segued from "You'll Never Walk Alone" to "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

STEVIE WONDER: (Singing) 'Cause I'll be loving you always, always, always, always.

Friday's event also was laced with politics, social commentary and appeals to activism. And she took the black church downtown and made folks that didn't know what the Holy Ghost was shout in the middle of a concert.

"The queen's legacy, the queen's life - what can we leave here saying that the Queen of Soul has done, is doing or will do back that will impact us as a race to turn our race around?" You felt every word, every note, every emotion in the songs she sang.

"Come on, this is a church service, lift your voice!" Whispers such as "talk about Aretha" were audible in the crowd.

Among those to perform during the ceremony was Ariana Grande, who was invited to perform after impressing Franklin's family with her tribute on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show in the wake of the singer's death on August 16. Long lines, he said, for "the death of the icons and short lines for voting".

"She worked her can off to get where she was". Sharpton asked the crowd to help him teach Trump the meaning of respect.

Two other former presidents, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, did not attend the ceremony but their tributes were read out to mourners. They are scheduled to speak at Sen.

On Thursday, the scene shifted to New Bethel Baptist Church, which for many years was pastored by Franklin's father, the Rev. C.L. Franklin. Clarence, Aretha's eldest, is incapacitated and is represented by a guardian.

But Bishop Ellis apologised after some thought it was distasteful. Franklin performed at Parks's funeral.

Pink Cadillacs led the way.
