Jose Mourinho tells Manchester United: Sign players or expect hard season

It is impossible to keep Manchester United out of the news at the moment with a host of players linked with the club as we have already mentioned, whilst the speculation surrounding Paul Pogba to Barcelona continues to swirl.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign a centre-back before the summer transfer window closes and German World Cup victor Boateng, 29, has emerged as a serious target for the Red Devils. United also considered Toby Alderweireld and Yerry Mina. "On Friday we go with the best possible team".

"I don't know if there was any official bid [from Manchester United], but some things have happened", he said. Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody.

However, the trip to Germany could have been beneficial for reasons off the pitch.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will only sign a sixth player in the summer transfer window if a unique opportunity becomes available.

Boateng had emerged as the leading candidate as a cheaper option to Maguire but that deal could now be in doubt.

If the Red Devils can secure a move for Boateng in the coming days, it would prove a major coup for United and would give them significant reinforcements in defence.

The same article states that Bayern are asking for £44m to sell the former Manchester City defender in the current transfer window after a hard World Cup for Boateng.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek, Kenyon said: "He is more than capable - one of the best coaches in the world - but have they got it right? No".

Do you think Boateng would be a good signing for United? Have your say in the comments section below.
