Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov Announced For UFC 229

Conor McGregor will finally make his long awaited Octagon return as he takes on newly-crowned lightweight champion and rival Khabib Nurmagomedov (26-0) at UFC 229 on October 6, the UFC announced on Friday.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov confirmed that his son would be preparing for the bout in the USA, and that Russian Federation "has the right to expect victory" from a man who is unbeaten in 26 fights in the UFC.

McGregor, a two-weight world champion, is aiming to win back his old UFC Lightweight title which he was stripped of after failing to defend the strap.

Negotiations for the biggest fight in UFC history are now ongoing and a deal is expected to be reached in the coming days. The target of that assault was none other than Nurmagomedov himself.

The UFC did not disclose the terms of the fight agreement.

Once McGregor resolved to return to the octagon earlier this year, Nurmagomedov was the obvious choice to be his next opponent - but the biggest obstacle to this bout appeared to be money.

Well it seems like Conor McGregor's Irish lawyer may have confirmed the date and location for his bout with Nurmagomedov. McGregor didn't immediately react to the bout announcement on social media.

News of the press conference emerged a little over 24 hours after McGregor hinted that a deal to see him take on the undefeated Nurmagomedov is close to coming to fruition.

With that backstory in mind, the UFC has plenty of fodder to promote McGregor's Octagon return.

McGregor, speaking with TMZ, revealed a deal for his comeback fight was near to completion nearly two years since his last appearance in the octagon.

UFC held its 25th anniversary quarterly press conference on Friday in Los Angeles leading into the UFC 227 event set to take place this weekend in the Staples Center.
