Trump Urges Attorney General to End Russia Probe 'Right Now'

Questions remain whether the special counsel has requested an interview with Aras Agalarov, the pop star's father, who was awarded the Russian Order of Honor by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

John Bolton, the national security adviser, also wrote in a letter to Senate Democrats that "President Trump has not and will not tolerate interference in America's system of representative government".

Sessions was an ardent Trump supporter and had met Russia's ambassador to the US Sergei Kislyak during Trump's campaign and later had to recuse himself from the Russian probe according to the US Department of Justice guidelines.

"This is a awful situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further", Trump tweeted Wednesday.

California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, raised the question on Twitter Wednesday shortly after Trump's remark.

Briefing reporters from the White House podium about the Trump administration's efforts to prevent election interference by Russian Federation and other potential actors, Coats and national security adviser John Bolton were asked to address the President's commitment to the issue given he failed to directly confront Putin last month. She insisted the president's tweets are an "opinion" - but not an order.

Lawmakers on both sides immediately spoke out in support of the probe.

Though Trump has previously called for an end to Mueller's probe, yesterday's tweets were the most direct aimed at Sessions - and they drew sharp criticism, including from some members of Trump's own party.

Trump's lawyers have been negotiating over an interview with Mueller since the end of a year ago.

Don't miss out on the latest news and information.

Mr Manafort's charges stem from his consulting work in the Ukraine, in which he allegedly received millions of dollars that he failed to report to the United States government. Trump later told CBS that he holds Putin personally responsible for Moscow's attempts to interfere in the 2016 USA election.

Giuliani is pressing Mueller to submit a report on his finding to the Justice Department by early September to avoid interfering with the November congressional elections.

Manafort is facing charges of bank fraud and tax evasion, though his alleged crimes occurred before he was involved with the Trump campaign.

Sanders maintained, though, that the White House wants the investigation to "be completed", and said this should happen "sooner rather than later". While the White House has said the president's tweets amount to official statements, the president's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani later Wednesday issued a statement to ABC News describing the tweet merely as Trump's "opinion".

By making such a tweet, Sanders argued that Trump is not indulging in obstruction of justice. Last month, immediately after his one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin - Trump appeared to believe Putin's denial over the U.S. intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

In view of the tweet, "I think it would be helpful to have the debate on that bill", Collins said.

Even though they are very critical of Trump, even describing him as a threat to democracy, they are urging Democrats to focus their time and energy on more salient issues, namely winning the working and middle classes back, instead of sitting back and waiting for Trump to self-destruct.
