Modric can only leave Real Madrid for €750 million release clause

Luka Modric opens talks to leave Real Madrid for Inter Milan as Arturo Vidal deal stalls

As things now stand, the proposed move to Milan is entirely up to the player himself who would link up with compatriots Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic and Sime Vrsaljko if he is to join the Nerazzurri.

Real Madrid have already sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for £105m this summer, and Perez insists Modric will not move unless his staggering release clause is met.

But Modric seems determined to test Real's resolve.

It's reported that the Serbian playmaker, who also featured for his country at the World Cup, has been on Real Madrid's radar for some time, and could be lined up as an heir to Modric's crucial role within the Madrid side, while becoming Julen Lopetegui's first marquee signing as Madrid boss.

"The only way Modric can leave is if someone pays 750m", Perez told Marca.

How could Real Madrid line up next season after the transfer window?

After being encouraged by Modric's representatives, Inter are said to be holding off on a deal to sign Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich while they see if a move for the former Tottenham midfielder is actually viable.

Modric covered more distance than any other player in the World Cup, leading his team to two penalty shootout victories to help Croatia in their best ever World Cup finish as runners-up. For this reason, claims Gazzetta, Inter would seek an initial loan deal with an option to buy - a solution which, unless the purchase clause were obligatory, Real would not be expected to countenance.

They will play in the group stage of the Champions League this term.
