Maguire had a fabulous World Cup this summer, helping lead England to the semifinals.

However, the 25-year-old could not prevent Boro from being relegated to the Championship in their first season back in the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the manager said: "I am confident about the presence of Harry for this season".

United were willing to splash out £65m on the big central defender after his World Cup heroics for England.

"If we have another surprise before the end of the pre-season, it will be tough". It was not a surprise to see him perform well at this level in the global game.

"I think we can keep both players - it is crucial for us", the Leicester Mercury quote him as saying.

This blow has been perpetuated by rumblings that Chelsea are keen on Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel as a possible replacement for Thibaut Courtois, while Manchester United have been heavily linked with Maguire over the last week.

If we lose a player just a few days before the beginning of the season without the ability to replace him because the transfer window for the Premier League will finish on August 9.

"Leicester want £50m for Maguire after his performances at the World Cup".

Speaking on the Red Devils' tour of the United States earlier this week, the Portuguese suggested that Leicester were in a "much better position" than his side ahead of the August 10 clash at Old Trafford.

United manager José Mourinho has been unhappy with how the club's transfer business has progressed over the summer, and has identified Maguire as a potential target to bolster his defence.

Elsewhere, United have been dealt a transfer blow with Gareth Bale set to sign a new deal with Real Madrid.
