The Reds are one of a number of clubs to approach Stoke City, but there is little room or need for negotiations as he has a release clause of just over £13million.

Liverpool are confident of completing a £12m deal for Xherdan Shaqiri before leaving for their US Tour.

Liverpool have already spent heavily in the transfer market this summer in the shape of midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho and Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen his forward line with a mind to challenging for the Premier League title. He admitted that he would like to leave following last season's relegation.

Shaqiri scored eight times for Stoke last season and has made 92 appearances in total since joining from Inter in 2015.

The 26-year-old could not prevent the Potters from sliding down to the Championship, but the player is still in demand among top clubs, as Liverpool fan Jake liked the prospect of Shaqiri at Anfield.

His side take on League Two outfit Bury on Saturday before a midweek game against Blackburn Rovers.

They could have him in place to travel to the U.S. where they will play Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United later this month. A deal for the Lyon captain may yet be resurrected after France's World Cup campaign, however. Fekir, in any case, is still with France at the World Cup and would not be due to return to action until early-August.
