The Welsh global spent last season on loan at Hull City, where a fruitful spell saw him score seven goals in 13 appearances in the Championship.

Today, the club announced on their official platforms that the winger has signed a new deal and he was delighted as he spoke to after signing the contract.

"[I want] to impress and give everything everyday to show the boss and help the whole team and show I can be a part of this Liverpool squad and go from there".

Lallana, though, is not the type of person to dwell on misfortune and he caught the eye on his first appearance of pre-season, scoring a goal and showing plenty of sharp touches as Liverpool breezed past local rivals Tranmere in what has become an annual warm up fixture.

"When it got offered to me, I was desperate to get everything sorted so I could sign it fairly early on in pre-season because I want to focus on playing football".

Jones reports that Liverpool rejected another loan approach from Celtic at the weekend as they have concerns about sending him to the Scottish champions after seeing Chelsea's Charly Musonda get very little game time whilst on loan at Celtic Park last season.

"[Hull] was what I needed - a lot of minutes in a competitive league in the Championship".

One Twitter user said: "What we've just seen from Karius is an indication that he hasn't bounced back from his major errors", while others suggested that the club need to move in the transfer window for another goalkeeper.

Lazar Markovic, meanwhile, has been told to find a new club for the second summer in a row.

Both players featured in the friendly win at Chester City on Saturday. He has not featured for Liverpool since May 2015.
