Number of displaced triples to 160,000 during fighting in south Syria

The UN has estimated that 50,000 people have fled the embattled areas in southern Syria in recent days

As many as 160,000 Syrians have fled the war zone to the Jordanian and Israeli borders, where neither country is prepared to let them in.

Syria is pushing south in an offensive against rebels in the southern Daraa Province, which borders Israel and Jordan.

The Prime Ministry of Jordan closed the border and said that Jordan "cannot withstand the burden of hosting its Syrian neighbors, but is ready to work with the United Nations in fulfilling its duty without opening the border".

Near the Golan Heights, scores of newly displaced raised banners in protest.

The statement said Russian Federation and Iran were violating the agreement they made and that it was "no surprise" that they proved to be "totally untrustworthy".

Separately, SANA reported that foreign-backed militants in the villages of Um Walad, Jbib and al-Aslaha in Dara'a's eastern countryside had agreed to lay down arms and reconcile with the Syrian government.

Yasser al-Khatib, of the activist-operated Nabaa news, provided a similar estimate.

"The Jordanian armed forces have started sending convoys of humanitarian aid to the Syrian brothers. inside Syria", Jordanian government spokeswoman Jumana Ghanimat told AFP. They are moving in the direction of the border with Israel and Jordan. Earlier on Friday evening, local leaders in the area made contact with Israel in order to transfer the injured, the Israel Defense Forces said on Saturday night.

Civilians fleeing Syria's war will not be allowed to enter Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday adding however that his government will continue providing them with humanitarian aid. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan was still evolving and he was not authorized to discuss the matter with the media.

Since 2016, Israeli forces have provided humanitarian aid to Syrian villagers and internally displaced refugees across the Golan in a bid to keep the frontier quiet.

The military says it won't allow Syrians to enter Israel.

The current pro-government push to retake southwestern Syria is the largest assault on opposition-held territory there since a de-escalation deal brokered by the United States, Russia and Jordan came into effect in July 2017.

The Observatory reported that warplanes carried out 32 air strikes overnight as the offensive continued, hitting nine towns in Deraa province.

"Assad's forces' attack on Daraa was expected following their offensive on Eastern Ghouta", Salman said, also expressing concerns over the falling of stray shells from the battlefield into his city and the other border towns.

He put the death toll at 20, saying women and children were among the casualties.

Jordan has been facilitating talks between rebel factions and Moscow over a deal that would end the violence in return for the return state rule to Deraa province.

The regime has chipped away at rebel-held territory in Daraa since the escalation began nearly two weeks ago.

The Observatory said that since the offensive began 11 days ago, 116 civilians have been killed including five on Saturday.

The global aid organization CARE said humanitarian workers in the south are struggling to deliver basic supplies.
