Id-El-Fitr: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

Eid ul Fitr 2018 Moon Sighting: The date of Eid ul-Fitr typically varies from country to country, depending on whether the moon has been seen.

He said some Islamic countries prefer to use telescopes to sight the moon, while other countries will only call Ramadan if the new moon is spotted with the naked eye.

The holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan, observed by the Muslims across the world, is coming to an end. A moon-sighting committee has been drafted for this objective. "Therefore, tomorrow we will be sure to know if Thursday will be the last day of Ramadan or Friday", Al Rahbi told the Times of Oman.

On June 4, Pakistan Meteorological Department said that Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on June 16 this year. Preparations have begun in full swing and we can already see markets hustling with Eid special desserts and delicacies, especially in the dingy lanes of Old Delhi; we love the hustle bustle and everything in between.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet for the sighting of the Shawal moon in the evening today in Karachi, under the chairmanship of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.

The ministry has approved the holidays from June 15 to June 18, a notification regarding which has been released on Friday.

Islam follows the lunar calendar, based on phases of the Moon. They will resume work from Tuesday, June 19.
