The city says it plans to file a separate appeal regarding the NEB's approval of Kinder Morgan's choice of routing through Burnaby. Robertson's comments "show a tremendous inability to look beyond the most local of borders", Notley said.

The project has faced court challenges and permit delays in B.C. Premier John Horgan's government says it is concerned about the potential for oil spills on its waterways and coastline. Mr. Robertson "doesn't understand there are other cities than just his city - there are other people in the province of B.C., quite frankly, who are struggling to find employment". "The economic consequences would be severe throughout the country". The Federal Court of Appeal previously rejected appeals from the city and from the provincial government in March.

Currently, the campaign's billboards can be seen at locations in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops, the west Kootenays, and the airports in Abbotsford and Nanaimo.

As a looming deadline on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion draws near, Alberta's premier is turning up the pressure to get it built in light of the BC government's opposition.

Notley wouldn't go into detail, but did say she's confident that construction on the pipeline planned for later this year will happen on schedule, as daily talks between Alberta, Kinder Morgan and the federal government continue.

The controversial pipeline has caused a long standing feud between Alberta and B.C., prompting Alberta to boycott B.C. wines for a while. "We don't believe the federally appointed NEB is the right place to review municipal processes".

Last month, Kinder Morgan stopped all non-essential spending on the project and said it wants assurances by the end of this month that the expansion can proceed.

The Alberta legislature is in the final stages of debate on Bill 12, which will give Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd power to throttle gasoline shipments to British Columbia.

Notley said the bill will be used strategically, if necessary. "So we must deploy this tool with a cool hand, not an angry one".
