David Beckham celebrates with manager Alex Ferguson after Manchester United claim the title after the FA Premier 1996

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly awake and talking to his family following his emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage. Last night the hospital stated that the Scot was "doing well" and friends have said he is "sitting up talking and asking about his results".

The 76-year-old was admitted to Salford Royal Hospital on Saturday, much to the shock of the football world.

United have offered no update no Ferguson's condition since saying a procedure on the haemorrhage on Saturday had gone "very well" but that a period of intensive care is needed to optimise his recovery.

Ferguson handpicked Moyes to fill the Old Trafford hot-seat in the summer of 2013 and the former Everton boss chose to take his own backroom staff with him.

"It's sad, but I know his character and I know he has that fight in him".

Former United forward Wayne Rooney, who now plays for Everton, gave his support to the Ferguson family, tweeting: "Get well soon Boss". It's a tough time for everyone but I'm thinking positive and hoping he will pull through.

"He has been the biggest influence in my career, both on and off the pitch". Hopefully, he'll recover well. You possibly can exclusively hope and pray that all the pieces goes to be okay.

Giggs was one of "Fergie's Fledglings", along with David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt as well as the Neville brothers Gary and Phil, who were in the United team that won numerous trophies under Ferguson, including the 1999 treble.

The legendary football figure was in a coma since that surgery but the latest report from Daily Mail revealed that he is out of it.

United have thanked the many well-wishers, including Premier League managers Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, who have spoke of their admiration for Ferguson.

Rivals Manchester City and Liverpool are among the clubs have sent messages of support to Ferguson, which Carrick said demonstrates Ferguson's importance to the sport.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte added: "I have had the chance to know him and his wife".

"Everyone at the club is wishing him all the best and his family as well".
