When Warnock was appointed in October 2016, Cardiff were second from bottom of the Championship. The Welsh club finished runner-up in the second-tier Championship with 90 points on a 27-9-10 win-draw-loss record.

There was also a fourth sojourn in a Premier League hot seat - when appointed to Crystal Palace in 2015 - and he lasted all of four months on that occasion.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has said that funds will be made available for Warnock, but they are both now enjoying the celebrations after promotion was confirmed.

Etheridge notched another clean sheet for the Bluebirds to make him possibly the first Filipino to achieve promotion to the English top-flight as a starter.

"So the lads [players] said 'what about bringing in Charlie, gaffer?' So we got Charlie across to Hull, we won that game and then he came on Saturday and we managed to get over the line with a draw".

"We are nowhere near other clubs and their billionaire owners who spend so much on players and wages, not even in the Championship. I didn't think we would get in the play-offs let alone the Premier League". "It's not rocket science when you take that top six out of the Premier League", he said.

An England schoolboy and Philippines global, due to his mother, he nearly gave up on the dream four years...

Just last March, Etheridge and the Azkals pulled off the biggest achievement yet in Philippine football when the squad downed Tajikistan, 2-1, in the qualifiers to book the country's first ever slot in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Cardiff didn't so much win promotion to the Premier League, as were gifted it by a poor performance in Birmingham.
