Why you shouldn't overreact to Cleveland's Game 1 Loss to the Pacers

Oladipo, Pacers Hand LeBron, Cavaliers Game 1 Playoff Defeat

With Victor Oladipo leading the charge, the Pacers managed to secure a berth in the playoffs.

The Pacers held a 55-38 at halftime, then held off a second-half rally from Lebron James and the Cavaliers, who suffered their first loss in the opening round in 8 years. It wasn't the fact that Cleveland lost, it was the fact that the game was a blowout, with IN winning 98-80.

All that has made Oladipo a leading contender for National Basketball Association most improved player honors, and it served as a fitting prelude to Sunday's performance, when he hit 11 of 19 shots, added six rebounds, four assists and four steals and helped snap James's personal 21-game winning streak in the first round. They hung on, played incredible team defense, played through Oladipo and Lance Stephenson, and pulled away with an 98-80 Game 1 win - on the road.

"We've got 10 new players", coach Nate McMillan said.

It's the continuation of a first-round Eastern Conference playoff matchup between a pair of Central Division rivals. He finished with 32 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in the Game 1 win. But it was the timeliness of his scoring in the fourth that truly earned it. Cleveland had gotten themselves back into late in the third quarter, but once Oladipo came in with 10 minutes left in the game, the flow of the game shifted Indiana's direction.

The Good: They say a series doesn't start until the home team loses.

Even in a losing effort, James was spectacular as always, recording a triple-double with 24 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Cleveland went just 8 of 34 on 3-pointers and missed eight of 20 free throws. "We've had many film sessions and one-on-one sessions to try to improve and he's shown that". Prior to Sunday, he had never lost a Game 1 in the first round, he hadn't lost any first-round game since 2012 and he hadn't lost a first-round game by this wide of a margin since 2008. Myles Turner added 16 points and seven rebounds.

Before Sunday, LeBron had won 21 straight first round games.

LeBron James: "I'm down 0-1 in the first round". I mean he was really feeling it this game and I simply don't think he will have that efficient and great of a shooting performance this series. "So, I'm the last guy to ask about how you're going to feel the next couple days". "Buy we've been playing our butts off at both ends of the floor all year". "How much different a regular-season game is compared to a postseason game. I'm anxious about my team and coming out to play one game at a time until we beat them". They were more physical at the point of attack. Now, they seem to have a sense of entitlement, which is the kind of thing that happens when you are cheering for the only person in human history who gets younger as he ages. We gave up 98 points. "Eighty points is definitely not going to cut it". But I think tonight we was tight with all our shots.
