Warm temperatures at last, but more rain could follow this weekend

Sunny and Warmer Monday

Following its passage out of Fiji waters, the weather forecasting centre in Nadi says that a high pressure that is to the far Southwest was responsible for the sunny and dry conditions now prevailing over the country.

According to a collection of reports for this area, the North Country is going to see a considerable mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain and wind over the weekend. One to two inches of rain a good possibility.

Drier weather will return from west to east Sunday midday and afternoon with a little sun, but a cold, gusty wind at times.

Temperatures will plummet back into the 30s and 40s for Saturday morning.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 35. Otherwise, partly to mostly cloudy conditions are expected for tonight.

Clouds will continue to filter in during the afternoon as we warm up to a daytime high a degree or so above freezing. Cloudy conditions ahead of our next cold front will keep temperatures out of the 70s for most spots as spotty showers increase throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

Today: A slight chance of rain and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., then a slight chance of rain between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. A brief tornado is possible, but the main threat from any severe thunderstorms will be damaging winds up to 60-70 miles per hour. Additional rain possible on Sunday, too. The forecast for this evening calls for an overnight low around 49 degrees with the winds winding down.

If you have Friday evening plans outdoors, I would certainly pay close attention to the radar and be prepared to move indoors if a strong storm approaches, but the main issues Friday evening will come from the gusty south winds, which will continue at times over 30 to 35 miles per hour. Highs today will reach the low 80s with highs near 80° for tomorrow.
